4 Movies for Valentine's Day

So with Valentine's Day coming up I figure it would give me a good excuse to let my tough exterior down & list my favorite Chick Flicks. Here are 4 of my favorite movies that are perfect for anytime near February 14th!

1) Shakespeare in Love
One of my favorite movies, this film takes a fun twist on one of the most famous writers of all time. It uses humor, love, & social struggles of the Elizabethan era to create a semi-factual romance tale. Gweneth Paltrow is wonderful is this movie and actually won the oscar for her performance.

2) House of Flying Daggers
This movie is definitely in my top 10 of all time, plus it can be perfect for couples on Valentine's Day because it combines action and love in the most beautitul way. With a passionate love story, spectacular special effects and a visually stunning picture this movie is sure to please even the most skeptical of martial art films .

3) Enternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
This movie is amazing. It is smart and heartfelt. You cant help but be moved by this truly unique & original love story. Jim Carry and Kate Winslet are perfect fits for this quirky & real story of two people who think they want to forget each other.

4) Something's Gotta Give
This movie has brilliant actors in it as well as a smart and witty story. It is the perfect romantic comedy for anyone of of any age. Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton are absolutely perfect together and really give an honest performance about these characters unconventional love story.

Award Season is here!

As you probably know the Golden Globes recently aired and now the Oscar nominations have finally been announced. As they would say in Hollywood, award season is in full swing! With so much buzz over the "supposed" best  in film and television lining up to receive there praise over the next few weeks I thought it would be fun to follow along and submit some of my favorite clips and opinions on all categories leading up to the big nights!
Lets start with the obvious, not everyone has seen every movie on the award lists, not everyone knows about the intricacies of the categories, and lets seriously face that fact that not everyone likes the movies and people that are selected, so Ill start with what I know. I know that no one element of a movie makes it great, its all about things coming together to create the bigger and overall picture, so this week I'm going to highlight my opinions on a few of my favorite nominees  for Best Picture on this years list. Hopefully you will agree or let me know what your favorites are!

Winter's Bone
A poverty stricken girl must locate her meth cooking father after she learns that if he misses his court date she will lose her home. The more she pursues to locate him the more she realizes the cruel realities of back woods drug dealings.
This movie is intense, eye opening, real, and beautiful. It doesn't have the hype of  Black Swan or The Social Network but what this movie lacks in commercial revenue it makes up in truthful performances that make these characters touch and disturb you at the same time.

True Grit
A young girl seeks the help from a troubled U.S. Marshall and a galant Texas Ranger after her father is murdered and has no choice but to go after the murderer herself.
One of the best movies that I have seen in a while, True Grit, really has every element of a great movie. It has mass audience appeal combing elements of humor, violence, and drama while still remaining pretty morally just. The beautiful cinematography capturing the epic landscape of the American west is matched with the brilliant performances by the cast.

The Social Network
A look at the people and events that went into the making of the revolutionary sight Facebook.
This movie appeals to me so much, not because of the technical elements of this movie because frankly to me it wasn't as aesthetically pleasing as True Grit or Winter's Bone, but because to most people in the world this movie is about something they know and experience personally everyday. Who doesn't want to watch a movie about the creators of something they use everyday? I love that this movie has a young, fresh feel to it. The cast is near perfection and the filmakers took an interesting approach to the way they show the storyline. Plus  who doesn't love JT..just sayin'.

The Beginning

When starting something new you never quite know what your doing but you just do your best and go with your feelings. Well, I guess this is my new "something new". H.O.M.E is meant for people who want to talk about movies and entertainment with out trying to appeal to critics or media hype. This is a blog for honest opinions and everyday people's take on entertainment. Entertainment is an art so no one person can ever be right about something being good or bad, but we should appreciate all forms of it. Besides if you never experience things you don't like how can you know or appreciate the things that you do? This sight is a free for all zone and I encourage people to not only take something from my posts but also leave me with something as well. I will be posting all different types of thoughts, takes, and types of information on here so tune in and check it out!
